2026 Week 1 Fantasy Football Early-Week Matchup Preview

Two games kick off the 2026 NFL season before Sunday — here's what actually matters for your lineup.

The 2026 NFL season opens with a Wednesday night game in Seattle and a Thursday night showdown in Los Angeles. Both slates are loaded with high-profile fantasy assets — and a cluster of injury question marks that could reshape your Week 1 lineup decisions before Sunday even arrives. Check active/inactive reports before locking anyone in.

New England Patriots at Seattle Seahawks

This is the season opener, and it's a genuine fantasy showcase. Both offenses carry legitimate upside, and the game features two of the more intriguing early-week plays at multiple positions.

  • TreVeyon Henderson (NE, RB) — Questionable. This is the most important injury flag on the entire Wednesday slate. Henderson projects at 191.5 PPR points for the season and posted 206.2 PPR points in 2025 across all 17 games. If he's out or limited, Rhamondre Stevenson steps into a larger role — Stevenson projects nearly identically at 190.8 PPR points and is healthy. In standard scoring, Stevenson's value is modest; in PPR, he's a flex with upside if Henderson misses time. Monitor this one right up to kickoff.

  • Drake Maye (NE, QB) is healthy and one of the better fantasy QBs in this game. He put up 360 PPR points in 2025 across 17 games and projects for 320.7 this season. He's a strong streaming option in superflex or two-QB formats.

  • A.J. Brown (NE, WR) paired with Maye is the key skill-position play on New England's side. Brown posted 220.3 PPR points in 2025 (16 games) and projects for 256.6 in 2026. He's a WR2 floor with WR1 upside regardless of scoring format, though his value is highest in PPR.

  • Jaxon Smith-Njigba (SEA, WR) is the headliner for Seattle. He totaled 359.9 PPR points in 2025 — a full season of true WR1 production — and projects for 326 PPR points in 2026. Start him everywhere, in every format.

  • Jadarian Price (SEA, RB) projects at 187.5 PPR points for the season. He didn't play in 2025, so there's no recent production baseline to draw from. He appears in touchdown-scorer coverage for this game, which suggests some role clarity, but treat him as a boom-bust flex rather than a lock — especially in standard scoring where his receiving work won't be rewarded.

  • Romeo Doubs (NE, WR) is a low-end flex in PPR leagues. He's projected at 163.8 PPR points and matched that almost exactly in 2025 (165.4). Consistent but capped.

San Francisco 49ers at Los Angeles Rams

This Thursday game has the biggest injury cloud of the early-week slate. Three of the most relevant fantasy players in this matchup are listed as Questionable, including two of the highest-projected assets across all four teams this week. Proceed with caution — or at least a backup plan.

  • Christian McCaffrey (SF, RB) — Questionable. This is the headline. McCaffrey is the most productive fantasy player in this entire two-game slate: he put up 416.6 PPR points in 2025 across 17 games and projects for 334.8 in 2026. His value is format-universal — he catches passes, he scores touchdowns, he handles volume. If he's active, he's a must-start. If he's out, his situation needs an immediate check on who handles the workload, and you should not assume he plays until confirmed active.

  • Puka Nacua (LAR, WR) — Questionable. Nacua is the other major injury concern here. He posted 375 PPR points in 2025 (16 games) and projects for 339.5 in 2026 — making him a WR1 by a wide margin in PPR. His value drops sharply in standard scoring, but in PPR or half-PPR he's a top-five wide receiver when healthy. Don't start him without confirmation he's active.

  • Kyren Williams (LAR, RB) is healthy and the safest start in this game. He totaled 263.3 PPR points in 2025 across 17 games and projects for 235.3 in 2026. He's a strong RB2 in standard and a high-end RB2 in PPR. Start him without hesitation.

  • Davante Adams (LAR, WR) is healthy and projects for 222.2 PPR points — nearly identical to his 2025 output (222.9 in 14 games). He's a reliable WR2 in PPR and gains value if Nacua misses this game, since Stafford's targets have to go somewhere.

  • George Kittle (SF, TE) — Questionable. Kittle projects at 186.8 PPR points and posted 161.5 in 2025. Tight end scarcity makes him a must-start when healthy, but his Questionable tag is real. Have a backup ready.

  • Mike Evans (SF, WR) — Questionable. Evans projects for 195.5 PPR points but posted only 84.8 in 2025 across 14 games — a significant gap that reflects injury or role concerns last year. His Questionable tag going into Week 1 raises additional flags. He's a risky start until confirmed active, and even then, his 2025 production warrants skepticism about the projection ceiling.

  • De'Zhaun Stribling (SF, WR) — Questionable. Stribling didn't play in 2025 and projects at 166.5 PPR points. He shows up as a sleeper target in multiple pre-season pieces. If Evans misses this game and Stribling plays, he's worth a speculative flex spot in deeper PPR leagues — but with zero recent NFL production, he's a high-variance dart throw.

  • Deebo Samuel (SF, WR) is healthy and projects for 163.7 PPR points after posting 188.2 in 2025. He's a usable PPR flex, and his value climbs in standard scoring formats where his run-after-catch style and rushing usage get rewarded equally.
