2026 Week 8 Fantasy Football: Jahmyr Gibbs, Amon-Ra St. Brown Miss Wednesday Practice

Both Detroit Lions offensive stars sat out Wednesday, but there's no indication either will miss Sunday's game against the Vikings.

According to ProFootballTalk (NBC Sports), the Detroit Lions opened their Week 8 practice week without running back Jahmyr Gibbs and wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown. Gibbs is dealing with a shoulder injury, while head coach Dan Campbell said St. Brown hurt his ankle in last Sunday's win over the Packers. Critically, ProFootballTalk reports there's been no indication the Lions expect to be without either player against the Vikings — Thursday and Friday practices will tell us more.

Jahmyr Gibbs

A shoulder injury is the kind of thing that can linger, but the absence of any concern from the coaching staff is the most important data point right now. Hold Gibbs in your lineup for now and monitor Thursday's practice report closely. If he misses back-to-back days, the calculus changes. If he's without a designation by Friday, start him with confidence.

If Gibbs were to miss Sunday, Sione Vaki would be next in line for touches. Vaki has averaged 3.3 touches per game on a 23.5% snap share this season across six games — a workload that would almost certainly spike in a Gibbs absence, but hardly a sure-fire fantasy starter. Note that the third-string option, Jacob Saylors, is himself limited this week with a neck injury per the same report, which could push more work toward Vaki by default.

Amon-Ra St. Brown

St. Brown's ankle injury is fresh — he hurt it just last Sunday — so a Wednesday DNP isn't alarming on its own. Campbell's "likely to miss Wednesday" framing suggests the team saw this coming and isn't panicking. St. Brown is currently listed as questionable, and the situation deserves a watch-and-wait approach before making any roster moves.

If St. Brown's status deteriorates, Jameson Williams would be the primary beneficiary. Williams has seen 6.3 targets per game on an 89.1% snap share across six games this season — he's already deeply involved and would be the clear lead target in St. Brown's absence. Isaac TeSlaa (3.5 targets per game, 60% snap share) is a deeper option worth knowing if both volume and snaps shift down the depth chart.
