Cowboys Waive RB Emari Demercado

Dallas cuts Demercado for the second time this month — here's what it means for the Cowboys backfield.

The Cowboys have waived running back Emari Demercado, according to ProFootballTalk (NBC Sports). This is actually his second release from Dallas — the Cowboys first waived him on Oct. 8 before re-signing him, then claimed him off waivers from the Chiefs on Aug. 31. He finishes his Dallas stint with just 15 rushing yards on five carries across two appearances.

Emari Demercado

Demercado is an easy cut from all formats. He never cracked the Cowboys' rotation in any meaningful way, and this second waiving makes clear he has no role in Dallas. His Cardinals history — 834 rushing yards and 50 catches over three seasons — showed he could be a change-of-pace back, but that flashed nowhere in his time here. Move on without looking back.

Javonte Williams

This move changes nothing for Javonte Williams, who was already the unquestioned lead back in Dallas. According to the Week 7 recap data, he rushed for more than 150 yards last week and is averaging 18.4 touches and 76.5% of snaps through seven games this season. Demercado was never a real threat to his workload. Williams remains a locked-in starter.

Tyler Goodson

Goodson is the more interesting name to watch. He's the clear handcuff behind Williams, averaging 5.8 touches on 13.6% of snaps across six games. With Demercado gone, Goodson would be first in line if Williams were ever to miss time — worth a stash in deeper leagues, especially given how heavily Williams is being used.
