Week 1 Early-Week Fantasy Matchup Preview: Patriots at Seahawks, 49ers at Rams

Week 1 kicks off with a pair of early games worth circling: a Wednesday night trip to Seattle for New England, followed by a Thursday NFC West showdown between San Francisco and the Rams. Both slates carry significant injury question marks — three 49ers starters are listed as Questionable — so check the wire and beat reporters right up until kickoff.

New England Patriots at Seattle Seahawks

This is a Drake Maye showcase game on paper. Maye put up 360 PPR points across 17 games last season and projects for 320.7 in 2026 — he's a high-end QB1 with rushing upside that makes him valuable even in standard scoring. Lock him in confidently this week.

On the other side, Jaxon Smith-Njigba is the clear fantasy priority for Seattle. He posted 359.9 PPR points across 17 games in 2025 and projects for 326 PPR points this season. He's a WR1 in all formats — the gap between him and Seattle's other receivers is real.

• A.J. Brown (NE, WR): No injury tag. Projected 256.6 PPR points — a legitimate WR1 who should command targets as Maye's top target. Start him everywhere.

• TreVeyon Henderson (NE, RB) — Questionable: This is the most important injury to monitor on this slate. Henderson projects for 191.5 PPR points and posted 206.2 last season. If he's out, Rhamondre Stevenson (190.8 PPR projection) becomes a must-start workhorse. In PPR leagues, Stevenson's receiving ability makes him viable either way; in standard, Henderson's upside is what you're really paying for. Watch for the injury report update.

• Rhamondre Stevenson (NE, RB): His projection (190.8 PPR) nearly matches Henderson's, which signals a genuine timeshare even at full health. In PPR, he has standalone value. In standard, he's more of a flex play unless Henderson is ruled out.

• Jadarian Price (SEA, RB): Zero games and zero points in 2025. His 187.5 PPR projection suggests real opportunity this season, but there's no production to anchor confidence in Week 1. Manageable as a stash; don't count on him as a starter yet.

San Francisco 49ers at Los Angeles Rams

The 49ers are carrying three Questionable tags heading into Thursday — Christian McCaffrey, Mike Evans, and George Kittle — which makes this game a fantasy minefield for SF managers. The Rams, by contrast, are healthy and have one of the most complete fantasy rosters in this slate.

• Christian McCaffrey (SF, RB) — Questionable: He posted a staggering 416.6 PPR points in 17 games last season and projects for 334.8 in 2026. He's still a first-round pick — but if he doesn't clear the injury report, you cannot start him. This is the most consequential injury flag on the entire early-week slate. Monitor every update.

• Puka Nacua (LAR, WR) — Questionable: Nacua racked up 375 PPR points in 16 games last season and projects for 339.5 — one of the highest WR projections in the sport. The Questionable tag is a real concern. If he plays, he's a WR1. If he doesn't, Davante Adams becomes the outright alpha for the Rams passing game.

• Kyren Williams (LAR, RB): No injury concern, and he's a plug-and-play RB1. He posted 263.3 PPR points last season and projects for 235.3 in 2026. One recent draft guide specifically called him the perfect third-round value. Start him with confidence in all formats.

• Davante Adams (LAR, WR): Clean bill of health, 222.2 PPR projection, and he posted 222.9 in just 14 games last season. He's a high-floor WR2 in all formats — and if Nacua misses, he's a WR1 for the week.

• George Kittle (SF, TE) — Questionable: Projected for 186.8 PPR points, Kittle is a top-end TE1 when healthy. His Questionable tag is a must-monitor — if he's out, his value evaporates and you'll need a streaming option fast.

• Mike Evans (SF, WR) — Questionable: Evans posted just 84.8 PPR points in 14 games last season, and his 195.5 PPR projection assumes a bounce-back. The Questionable flag adds another layer of risk. He's a wait-and-see in most formats.

• De'Zhaun Stribling (SF, WR) — Questionable: He didn't play in 2025 and carries a 166.5 PPR projection as a breakout candidate. If Evans misses and Stribling clears, he's worth a flier — but two Questionable tags on the same depth chart means checking the final injury report before making any decisions here.

Bottom line for Thursday: the Rams are the safer fantasy game from top to bottom. Williams is a locked-in start. Nacua and Adams are both viable — just make sure you know Nacua's status before lineup lock. For SF managers, McCaffrey and Kittle's Questionable tags demand backup plans on both sides of your lineup.
