Bears Sign Zavier Scott to Active Roster

Chicago locks up their special-teams back, but the fantasy ripple effects are minimal.

The Chicago Bears have signed running back Zavier Scott to their active roster, releasing defensive back Nick McCloud in a corresponding move, according to ProFootballTalk (NBC Sports). Scott had been elevated from the practice squad for each of Chicago's last three games, and the team needed to add him outright to avoid exposing him to waivers for another temporary elevation.

Scott's role is special teams — full stop. Per the source story, all of his in-game work this season has come on special teams, where he's racked up five tackles and a forced fumble. His work with the Vikings last year (32 carries, 14 receptions) shows he can handle offensive reps in a pinch, but nothing in the source story suggests the Bears are planning to use him that way. In both redraft and dynasty formats, he's a roster-cut candidate unless he forces his way into the offensive backfield.

The Bears' RB depth chart has D'Andre Swift leading the backfield at nearly 20 touches and 62% snap share (average per game this season), with Kyle Monangai currently listed as out and Roschon Johnson filling a clear change-of-pace role at roughly 21% snap share. Scott's signing doesn't change any of that — he's the fourth man in a room where the top three are already defined. If Monangai's absence created an opportunity, Johnson is the realistic next-in-line for offensive touches, not Scott.
