2026 Week 8 Fantasy Football Bye Week Alert

Four teams are dark in Week 8 — plan your replacements now before the waiver wire gets picked clean.

Week 8 takes out four teams with serious fantasy firepower: the San Francisco 49ers, Houston Texans, New Orleans Saints, and New York Giants. Some of the most-started players in the game are sitting out, so get your replacements lined up now — not Sunday morning.

Players on bye

San Francisco 49ers

This is the most painful bye in Week 8. Brock Purdy (310.8 projected PPR points, per FantasyPros 2026) just set the all-time NFL record for career passer rating and looked excellent in Monday night's win over Washington. Christian McCaffrey (292.0 projected) is your likely most-started player — find a bridge back. George Kittle remains TE-relevant with a 156.2 projection. Deebo Samuel and Mike Evans are both listed as out, so their managers are already scrambling. Eddy Pineiro has been one of the worst kickers in the NFL this season per coach Kyle Shanahan's own comments — his managers should probably be streaming anyway.

Houston Texans

Nico Collins (207.3 projected) is the WR1 to replace. C.J. Stroud (261.0 projected) has been playing like an MVP and is a must-stream target for his opponents this week. David Montgomery is listed as out, so his managers have a bye and an injury to solve at once. Dalton Schultz has seen declining route participation and is a drop candidate per recent reporting — his managers may not need to bother finding a fill-in. Marvin Harrison (158.2 projected) is worth watching for context: a snap-count report from this week noted him at just 12 snaps, so his role bears monitoring even beyond the bye.

New Orleans Saints

Chris Olave (213.0 projected) is the top Saints player to replace. Tyler Shough (279.6 projected) is a streamer-worthy QB when healthy. Alvin Kamara is listed as questionable even before the bye, adding uncertainty to his Week 9 outlook. Juwan Johnson posted a strong 2025 season (179.9 PPR points) and carries a 121.1 projection for 2026 — worth a spot start in TE-needy leagues when he returns.

New York Giants

The Giants' backfield is a mess heading into the bye. Cam Skattebo was benched and got zero touches in Week 6, and the Giants are releasing Najee Harris outright as of today. Tyrone Tracy led the backfield with six carries in that game, but coach John Harbaugh said publicly someone needs to "do something" to earn the job — this backfield is unplayable until clarity emerges. Malik Nabers (172.9 projected) is the WR to replace. Theo Johnson is listed as out, so Isaiah Likely (129.9 projected) is the TE option to manage.

Streaming options

Availability varies widely by league size and format (PPR scoring rewards pass-catching backs and receivers more than standard). Check your waiver wire before using this list as a pickup priority — the best matchup means nothing if the player is already rostered in your league.

A quick note on ranking: defense_rank_allowed here refers to how many fantasy points a defense has allowed to that position this season, ranked 1 through 32 — rank 1 means they've given up the most points, making it the best possible matchup for the offense.

QB

Aaron Rodgers

Rodgers faces Cleveland, the 9th-most generous defense to QBs this season (out of 32 teams). He rallied Pittsburgh from 16-3 down to a 26-19 overtime win in Week 6, showing his arm is still functional. Over 137,000 managers added him on Sleeper in the last 48 hours — that's a real signal. If Stroud or Purdy managers need a bridge, Rodgers is the call.

Jacoby Brissett

Brissett draws Dallas, the 14th-most permissive defense to QBs. He's a safe floor streamer with a 238.8 full-season projection — not flashy, but a reasonable emergency option in deeper leagues.

Tua Tagovailoa

Tampa Bay is the 15th-most permissive defense to QBs — not elite, but workable. Tua carries a 167.8 season projection, making him a back-of-the-waiver-wire option in two-QB or Superflex formats only.

RB

Justice Hill

Buffalo is the top matchup in the entire league for running backs this season — rank 1 out of 32 in PPR points allowed to the position. Hill is the handcuff worth grabbing for that game alone. His 77.1 season projection isn't startling, but the matchup elevates his floor significantly.

Emanuel Wilson

Chicago is the 8th-most generous defense to RBs. Wilson has a 60.1 season projection, which makes him a flex dart throw in PPR (points-per-reception) leagues where pass-catching backs get a bump.

Ty Johnson

Baltimore is 15th in PPR points allowed to RBs — a middling matchup, but Johnson's 68.8 season projection makes him a passable bye-week fill-in in PPR formats if your other options are worse.

WR

Keenan Allen

Allen draws Jacksonville, the 16th-most permissive defense to WRs — not a standout spot, but the matchup is in the favorable half of the league. More importantly, 136,068 managers added him on Sleeper in the last 48 hours. Real people with real rosters are making this move right now. His 112.4 season projection gives him enough underlying role to justify a start in PPR leagues as a Olave or Collins replacement.

Cooper Kupp

Chicago is 14th in PPR points allowed to WRs. Kupp carries a 116.5 season projection and a 2025 stat line (117.3 PPR points) that backs up his role. A steady, low-variance option if you need to replace a starter.

Calvin Ridley

Cincinnati is 15th in PPR points allowed to WRs. Ridley's 120.7 season projection is the strongest of this group on paper, though his 2025 output was just 47.3 PPR points — approach as a boom-bust flex play rather than a lock.

TE

Zach Ertz

Washington is the single best matchup for tight ends in the league — rank 1 out of 32 in PPR points allowed to the position. Ertz had exactly 126.4 PPR points in 2025 and carries a 126.4 season projection for 2026. Lock him in if he's available and you need to replace Kittle, Johnson, or Likely.

Gunnar Helm

Cincinnati is 4th-most generous to tight ends. Helm is the lower-profile option here with a 72.0 season projection, but the matchup is elite enough to treat him as a viable streamer in TE-thin leagues.

Darnell Washington

Cleveland is 14th in PPR points allowed to TEs — a decent-enough matchup. Washington scored a touchdown in Week 6 and over 109,000 managers added him on Sleeper in the last 48 hours. The add spike paired with a real role makes him worth stashing.

Pat Freiermuth

Also faces Cleveland (14th in PPR points allowed to TEs). Freiermuth is the more established name with a 103.9 season projection. If Washington is gone in your league, Freiermuth is the next call at the position.

K

Nick Folk

Tampa Bay is the single best matchup for kickers this season — rank 1 out of 32 in fantasy points allowed to the position. Folk posted 126 PPR points in 2025 and carries a 121.0 season projection. If Ka'imi Fairbairn managers need a Week 8 replacement, Folk is the top target.

Chris Boswell

Cleveland is 3rd-most generous to kickers. Boswell had 144 PPR points in 2025 and over 71,000 managers added him on Sleeper in the last 48 hours. Reliable leg, great matchup — start him with confidence.

Tyler Bass

Baltimore is 8th in PPR points allowed to kickers. Bass is on one of the league's better offenses (Buffalo went 5-1 through Week 6), giving him consistent opportunities. Over 125,000 managers added him on Sleeper recently — the field is clearly buying in.

Evan McPherson

Tennessee is 6th-most generous to kickers. McPherson's 128.6 season projection is the highest of this group, making him a worthwhile add if you can get him before the rest of your league notices.
